Air Cadet Ranks

Air Cadet (AC)

• This is the rank that you have upon enrolment.

Leading Air Cadet (LAC)

For promotion to Leading Air Cadet (LAC) a cadet must:
• Actively participate in the proficiency level 1 of the LHQ training program for a minimum period of six months
• Be recommended by the appropriate level officer

Corporal (Cpl)

For promotion to corporal (Cpl) a cadet must:
• Hold the rank of LAC
• Have successfully completed the first year of the proficiency level training
• Be recommended by the appropriate level officer

Flight Corporal (FCpl)

For promotion to Flight Corporal (FCpl), a cadet must:
• Complete at least six months service at the rank of Cpl
• Have successfully completed the second year of the proficiency level training program
• Participate in the Cadet Fitness Assessment
• Be recommended by the appropriate level officer

Sergeant (Sgt)

For promotion to Sergeant (Sgt), a cadet must:
• Complete at least six months service at the rank of FCpl
• Have successfully completed the third year of the proficiency level training program
• Participate in the Cadet Fitness Assessment
• Attain a minimum of “completed without difficulty” in PO303 (Leadership)
• Be recommended by the appropriate level officer

Flight Sergeant (FSgt)

For promotion to Flight Sergeant (FSgt), a cadet must:
• Complete at least six months service at the rank of Sgt
• Have successfully completed the fourth year of the proficiency level training program
• Participate in the Cadet Fitness Assessment
• Attain a minimum of “completed without difficulty” in PO403 (Leadership)
• Be recommended by the appropriate level officer

Warrant Officer Second Class (WO2)

For promotion to Warrant Officer Second Class (WO2), a cadet must:
• Completed at least six months service at the substantive rank of FSgt
• Participate in the Cadet Fitness Assessment
• Attain a minimum of “completed without difficulty” in PO503 (Leadership)
• Be identified as a successful candidate through the merit review board process

Warrant Officer First Class (WO1)

For promotion to Warrant Officer First Class (WO1), a cadet must:
• Completed at least six months service at the substantive rank of WO2
• Be part of a squadron large enough to have been allotted it’s one WO1 position, and in which that position is vacant
• Be identified as a successful candidate through the merit review board process
• The cadet is henceforth known as “The Warrant” or “The Chief” of their squadron, in most squadrons
• Promotion to WO1 may be considered the pinnacle of an Air Cadet’s service.
